About the Museum

The Museum in Old Stavanger

The museum is housed in an authentic cannery which was i operattion from 1916 until 1958. Before that time the building was a storage facility for canner John Braadland. At the museum you can see how canned sprats and fishballs were produced, and get an impression of what the working environment of the factory was like. The upstairs is given over to a display of sardine can labels, known locally as "iddisar".
